            Nuclear research

CERN is a European research organisation in the field of high energy physics. It is particularly known for its
particle accelerators, which brings protons and electrons up to the speed of light, before steering them into a
head-on collision. The resulting energy and matter is studied at the heart of experiments like ATLAS,
allowing scientists from all over the world to learn more about the big bang and the origin of universe.

Number of employees ca. 3000, turnover with SERTO: ca. 100,000.-- / year

            APPLICATION
            SERTO products: Stainless steel unions
Application: Cooling equipment in the Atlas detector

            PARAMETERS
            Medium: Coolants C 3 F 8 and C 6 F 14
            Pressure: 6 - 16 bar
            Temperature: -24 to 25°C

                                                                                             Interior view of the
                                                                                               Atlas detector

CERN installs SERTO unions in the cooler on the interior of the ATLAS detector. The compact design of the
SERTO unions warrants easy assembly in the very limited space within the Atlas detector.

"Because the space is very limited in our equipment, we appreciate the radial assembly of SERTO
unions. Also of significant value to us, is the excellent technical support we receive from SERTO.”
